Frequently Asked Questions

How does translation work?

It’s not magic, but it is pretty amazing. First, educators write in English. Then RMT automatically translates the communication (including any attachments!) into each recipient’s preferred language. Recipients can then read the message in their chosen language, ensuring that important school info reaches home. When a parent replies, they write back in their preferred language and ReachMyTeach automatically translates the response back into English. We also support lower-literacy families with features like text-to-speech, which enables anyone to respond to messages with  voice memos that are automatically translated and transcribed.

How do I know my message will be translated correctly?

We automatically scan your messages for problematic language that will not translate well and flag it for you while you are composing your message. We even provide you with expert translator-certified templates for many common school communications such as newsletters, early release announcements, and positive behavior outreach.

What languages are supported?

RMT supports more than 200 languages, all included in our standard license.

What gets translated?
Everything you need! RMT automatically translates emails plus any attachments such as PDFs, text messages from staff members, district-wide broadcast messages, and even phone call transcripts. You can also access live interpreters, specialized in school-home communication, which is ideal when you’d prefer to pick up the phone or have a face-to-face conversation over written communication.
What channels can we use to connect with families?

Every popular mode of digital communication! Family members can choose their preferred channel for getting school communications, whether that’s email, text, phone — even What’sApp! Teachers can also schedule video calls that automatically sync with their Google calendars. Administrators have the ability to send district-wide broadcast messages via email, text, and phone.

Will our staff need training?

It’s so easy to use ReachMyTeach that we sometimes joke, “If you can send an email, you can use ReachMyTeach!” It really is that simple, and most schools don’t opt for any training for their staff. That being said, if you are interested in some PD around best practices and advanced features, we do offer tailored sessions. To learn more, [email protected].

Do we need to install an app?

No app required! When we created ReachMyTeach, we heard parents and teachers loud and clear — please don’t ask us to download one more thing! For parents, messages will come through their regular channels — email, text, or phone. For educators, it’s as simple as logging in via a browser and they’re all set to use the available features.

What privacy controls are there?

For parents and educators, ReachMyTeach offers a number of features to protect privacy while maintaining transparency. Teachers can use our virtual school phone to call home conveniently and safely from any device — including their own phone — via a recognizable school number. Calls are automatically logged and transcribed for security purposes. When group messages are sent via ReachMyTeach, such as class newsletters, recipients are not visible to one another, and replies can only be sent to the teacher.

How does ReachMyTeach handle security?

ReachMyTeach adheres to COPPA, FERPA, and internal/regional regulations that guarantee student data privacy. Schools and districts retain complete control over data. We follow the highest industry standards for data security, including using encrypted SSL connections or encrypted protocols such as SFTP, making sure all sensitive data on our servers is encrypted at rest, and performing regular security and penetration testing audits.

Can ReachMyTeach integrate with our SIS/SMS?

Yes, our platform is built to seamlessly integrate with school management systems (SMS) and student information systems (SIS), including ClassLink, OneRoster, with customizable access levels for administrators, educators, and staff.

How do families use ReachMyTeach?

Families love ReachMyTeach because it’s super easy to use. There’s no app to install, all they need to do is log in using their email or phone number. All incoming messages from the school get sent to their preferred channel — email, text, or WhatsApp — and appear in their preferred language. Replying is easy, with automatic two-way translation that allows families to write back in their chosen language as well. When a parent or guardian wants to reach out to a teacher or other staff member, they can log into the Parent Portal and easily see everyone on their student’s school team including classroom teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, and more. Parents also love the easy attendance reporting feature, which makes it a snap to alert the school about an absence.

Automatic translation is great, but what if I need an interpreter?

While most educators and families find that our translation works great for day-to-day communications, occasionally an interpreter is needed. For those situations, live translation via video call is available through our partner for an additional fee. All translators are trained in education and meet the highest standards, ensuring professional communication. Accessing a translator is easy and fast — simply select the person you want to call and click “call with an interpreter”, and an interpreter will join you within minutes via a link.
